When it comes to what to wear to a Broadway Show, most people are worried about whether or not formal clothes are required. In short, the answer is no, formal wear is not required. Whilst it can be lovely to dress up for the theater, especially Broadway, formal clothing isnt expected or required for entrance.
The simple answer is anything. Most theatres no longer have dress codes, so it doesnt matter what you wear. As long as you have a ticket for your performance, youll be allowed into the venue. Both formal and informal clothing is accepted.
Typically, stalls seats can be regarded as some of the best seats in the auditorium, due to their close proximity to the stage. If youre sitting in the first few rows of the stalls seats, you may even be able to touch the stage and see performers blink.
Unless there is some sort of audience participation component to the play or musical you are seeing, talking should be kept at a bare minimum. Conversations are distracting to both the performers and your fellow audience members. Catcalling, whistling, screaming, and booing at performers is also considered bad taste.
You can wear sandals, heels, chic flats, or even sneakers if theyre fashionable enough and youre heading to a matinee. My main advice would be to make sure your shoes are comfortable.
Business casual or smart casual clothing is always considered proper Broadway show attire. Its a surefire way to ensure that youll look appropriate, whether youre attending a matinee, an evening performance, or opening night. (Not sure what business casual is?
As far as the pants go, you can choose from skinny pants to wide-legged ones; even leggings are okay as long as theyre in good shape and something youd be comfortable wearing to the office.
