Hi everyone, Kevin here. Today I want to show you how you can convert audio into text. Were going to use an app that comes with Windows 10 and were going to combine that with a virtual audio cable. If that sounds confusing, dont worry, were going to walk through all of this step by step. This works with all major languages, its free, and there are no time limits at all. All right, lets jump on the PC, not literally, and lets see how we can do this. To convert audio into text, I mentioned that were going to use two separate tools, and the good news is you already have one of these tools. It comes for free with Windows 10, and its called the dictation tool. If youve never used it before, you can launch it by pressing the Windows logo key on your keyboard together with the H key. Transcription: Basic Rules Text order. Transcribe text in the order it appears on the page. Preserve original spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Transcribe original text spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Line breaks. Preserve line breaks. Page breaks. Illegible or unclear text. Blank pages - Nothing to transcribe.
Italics in square brackets are used to spell out a word that is either abbreviated and illegible or missing in the document if the transcribers are certain of the intention. Three ellipsis dots in square brackets indicate illegible and unknown words or letters.
Misspelled words are left in their original form and indicated with [sic]. Misspelled names, places or events are corrected in annotations at the end of each letter. Misspellings include instances where there is a perceived typographical error.
Type words exactly as they are written in the document. This includes capitalization, abbreviations, names, dates, and even misspelled words. If you happen to find a misspelled name, place, or event within the record, we encourage you to add a tag or a comment with the correct spelling of the word.
Transcribers should follow standard written capitalization patterns, and capitalize words at the beginning of a sentence, proper names, and so on. Transcribers use standard orthography, word segmentation and word spelling, except where explicitly specified otherwise.
When possible, words should be transcribed using their standard spelling; do not try to capture the way a word was spoken by modifying its normal spelling. Disfluencies that are not identifiable words should be transcribed as they sound, with a dash, `-, at the end of the word.
