Provide the following elements in this order: The phrase Image source or Source Author/Creator. Title. Date. URL where accessed. Provide a brief statement about the rights or permissions under which you are using the image. Some examples might be:
Citing Images The caption contains a description of the image and a credit line. The citation contains enough information as necessary to locate the image. Some captions do both - they serve as both the caption and citation.
How to Cite For all images: Artists name [first name then last], title [italicized], date. For an image of a museum object: Artists name [first name then last], title [italicized], date. For an image from an online source: Artists name [first name then last], title [italicized], date.
In MLA style, the citation of an image will have the following format: Artists name (Last name, First name). Title of Image. Medium (e.g. Photograph). Name of Website.
Name. Title (or Description). Year. Source. Name: If the creator is unknown, you can substitute the name of the entity that commissioned the image (e.g., Paramount Studios, Chicago Public Library, NASA). If source is an image database: include identifying numbers and collection information.
