if Im trying to simplify something little thumbnails are a great way to just think through some problems before you jump into a larger drawing Im going to simplify it into five values and the first value Ill put down its gonna be the lightest Shadow value all of the hair has to be that darker value and then what Im going to do is go into the shadows and find the darker darks I can use some of these darker values in like the nostril like I did on the eye here and then Im going to come into the light part and get some of these darker halftones between the eyes pretty much the whole chin and then this entire neck the lightest half tones are just going to be pretty much everything else in the face except the Highlight so now Im gonna switch over to a new page and do the same thing but with graphite more slowly and observe the shapes a little bit better
