The ASC guidelines and position statements are an explanation, a justification or a recommendation that reflects ASCs stance regarding the subject matter.
Modifier 51 Multiple Procedures indicates that multiple procedures were performed at the same session. It applies to: Different procedures performed at the same session. A single procedure performed multiple times at different sites.
Most of the procedures performed in ASCs have a global period of 10 or 90 days, but that global period applies to the operating physicians claims not the facilitys claims. Therefore, ASC coders will rarely need to use modifiers 78 or 79.
At least 1/3 of each physician investors medical practice income from all sources for the previous fiscal year or previous 12 month period must be derived from the physicians performance of procedures that require an ASC or hospital surgical setting in ance with Medicare reimbursement rules.
