Red Dots are also called Reflex Sights because aiming is not required, only a reflexive placement of the dot on the target and you will hit that target. If the dot does not stay in the center you are canting the firearm or not aligning the sight with your eye.
When you look through your red dot sight, your reticle should be crisp and clear-cut. If your red dot reticle seems blurry, fuzzy, or looks like a starburst, there may be nothing wrong with your optic. Instead, this occurrence is most likely caused by astigmatism.
As a general rule of thumb, you want to mount your 1x red dot optic as far forward as you can. Mounting your red dot as far forward as possible on the receiver will maximize your peripheral view and situational awareness.

The red dot of your optic should be slightly above the front sight. Otherwise, there is a strong possibility for your target to be obscured. When you align the iron sight to the center of the sight, its known as absolute co-witness; another setup is one-third of the optic, which is known as low 1/3.

The red dot or reticle of whatever kind is going sits on the tip of the front sight and generally is aligned with your iron sights. With a lower 1/3 co-witness, you see the bottom third of your iron sights through the optic. When looking through the optic, the red dot will appear over the front sight.
The wavelength of green is more accessible to eyes with refractive eye conditions such as astigmatism. If you have an eye condition, green dot sights are the better choice once again.
