Can you collect EI on a leave of absence?

When you voluntarily take a period of leave without pay, authorized by your employer, it is considered as quitting your job. If the reason for voluntarily taking a period of leave is without just cause, you will not be paid regular benefits for the entire period of the leave.

Can I claim EI for a leave of absence?

Employees are eligible for most job protected leaves after 90 days of employment with the same employer. Leaves are unpaid but in some cases income support may be available from Employment Insurance.

Can my employer put me on unpaid leave Ontario?

However, in most cases, employers cannot place an employee on an unpaid leave. Generally, unless your employment agreement expressly says so, your employer cannot place you on an unpaid leave.
