so were going to start with a fun question what is off i think that when we talk about auth we tend to talk about things that arent actually authentication we talk a lot about different packages we talk a lot about like contexts that contain piles of data that describe who a user is but auth is two things neither of which are a package neither of which are state neither of which are the user or any of those things its authentication and authorization authentication is who is this person and are they actually them and authorization is can they do this thing or not now the next question i think this is where people tend to get lost where does auth happen uh i wont answer this yet do yall know where auth happens chat yep yall get it the server so i could go on a side rant here of why does everybody keep asking me how they do off in their react app but im not going to do that instead were going to talk about how to frame off in a way that makes sense auth is a thing that happens on
