All AMIs must adhere to the following security policies: AMIs must not contain any known vulnerabilities, malware, or viruses as detected by the self-service AMI scanning tool or AWS Security. AMIs must use currently supported operating systems and other software packages.
You can easily browse the EC2 instances in the AWS web console and see what AMI was used to create them. Or you can use the aws ec2 describe-instances command to list all your instances. The output of that command will include the ID of the AMI used to create the instance.
On the left menu, choose Images AMIs. Select the AMI you want to remove, and click Actions. Choose Deregister, then click Continue.
To ensure that your instances are up-to-date with the latest security patches, software versions, you must regularly update your AMIs. Any AMI older than 180 days is considered obsolete and is missing important patches and security updates required for reliable operations.

You can enable MFA at the AWS account level and for root and IAM users you have created in your account.
