Ideally, the RSVP by date should fall three to four weeks before your wedding. Because your wedding invitations should be mailed six to eight weeks prior to the big day, guests should generally have a window of about one month to RSVP.
Since kids is a broad term, its important to specify the age group that wont be attending your wedding. While some couples define kids as under 18, others refer to those who are younger than 21. Newman and Ko encourage you to clearly state the demographic on your wedding website and invitations.
Children are sometimes a little more flexible. Generally, if it is an infant or small child will not be included in the guest count if they will be sitting in a parents lap. However, if the child will sit and eat on his or her own, they will be counted.
Define the age of an adult (18 and older or 21 and over). Some couples allow older children and welcome those ages 12 and up. Once youve committed to your decision, explain it clearly in the invitation and on the wedding website, event page, etc.
Simple wording such as Adults only Reception or Children over 16 years of age only are great starting points for this, and can be inserted at the bottom of the Invitation or Response Card (or just under the guest names lines).
Frankly, yes! If youre inviting parents of young babies (under a year old), and/or mothers who are breastfeeding to your wedding, you should definitely invite their babies, too, regardless of whether youre inviting children in general.
No Kids at Wedding Wording Examples The couple requests this be an adults-only event. Unfortunately, we cannot host any children at our wedding. We appreciate your understanding. There will be an adult-only (21+) reception to follow.
Lets say youre getting married on June 2. Mail invitations between April 7-21 (thats six to eight weeks ahead of the wedding). Give an RSVP date of between May 12-19 (that gives them four or five weeks to decide). Then, youre left with two to three weeks before the wedding to track down any late responders.
