[Music] the question is at what age I think you mentioned there was as early as 21 we should be getting past but how often are we getting that right so going back to age 21 a lot of the recommendations have changed over the years so Im giving the American College of ob-gyn recommendations theres different organizations that have different recommendations but we used to say a certain number of years after he became sexually active but now pretty much thats the standard age 21 if you started having sex really young we used to say 3 years afterwards but it doesnt matter our least are denying sex the risk of cervical cancer is so low but before the age of 21 that thats when people should get there first pap smear if you do it before then youre just increasing the number of extra testing that they need to do and its traumatizing for those young girls so thats why we say 21 Im just gonna put chastity belts on my children and were gonna call it a day now results of an abnormal pap

Do I Need a Pap Test After 50? The short and simple answer for most women is yes. For those over 50 who have just entered menopause, It is recommended that you receive a pap test once every three years.
Pap smears are recommended for women every 3 years, an HPV test every 5 years, or both, up to age 65.
One reason for the new guidelines is an understanding that cervical cancer takes 10-20 years to develop. As a result, the more frequent screenings are not needed. Here's a BRIEF SUMMARY: Women under age 21 should not be screened with a Pap test.
Women over 65 may hear conflicting medical advice about getting a Pap smear – the screening test for cervical cancer. Current medical guidelines say the test is not necessary after age 65 if your results have been normal for several years.
When to get tested. A Pap test is recommended every three years for: women 21 years old and older who are or have been sexually active.
The only sure way to find out if you have cervical cancer is to get a screening test (a Pap test and/or an HPV test). If you are a woman who has not had her cervix removed by surgery (a hysterectomy), keep getting tested until you are at least 65 years old.
Avoid intercourse, douching, or using any vaginal medicines or spermicidal foams, creams or jellies for two days before having a Pap smear, as these may wash away or obscure abnormal cells. Try not to schedule a Pap smear during your menstrual period. It's best to avoid this time of your cycle, if possible.
On the day of the pap smear, women can take a dose of ibuprofen. When arriving at the office, women should empty their bladder before the appointment time. Contracting muscles that are trying to “hold it” don't mix well with relaxing and letting the doctor do the pap smear.
As these hormones decrease, your vagina may become drier and less stretchy, so when you try to put something like a speculum, used during cervical screening, into your vagina, it may be uncomfortable or even painful.
Do not use douche, bubble bath, or use vaginal medicine for three days before Pap test. You may shower, but do not tub bathe 24 hours before the Pap test. Inform your clinician about additional medications/conditions that may interfere with an accurate test.
