ILLINOIS BOAT REGISTRATION All vessels powered by a motor or sail must be registered in the state of Illinois. That includes boats with trolling motors. Titles are option for boats under 22 feet in length. Unpowered watercraft do not need to be registered.
Proof of ownership, such as the original California Certificate of Ownership (title) or the out-of-state title (if it is currently registered in another state). If the original certificate is lost or damaged, complete an Application for Replacement or Transfer Title (REG 227) form to request a copy.
Registration requirements have not changed. All watercraft powered by machinery (this includes trolling motors) or sail are required to be registered in Illinois.
Illinois SB 2731 amends the Illinois Boat Registration and Safety Act and requires that operators of a boat towing a person or persons to display red or orange flags on their watercraft. The law says that flags must be orange and the flag must be displayed at the highest point of the area surrounding the boats helm.
As a title state, Florida requires a transfer of vessel title from owner to purchaser in order to obtain legal ownership. It is a crime in the state of Florida to take an abandoned vessel without first getting a title to it; doing so is considered theft and could result in fines or even jail time.
Illinois Boat Bill of Sale You can register your vessel with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. You dont need a boat bill of sale for this process, but having one is still a good idea.
