I want to talk about the number of problems with something called BMI body mass index this is an index to help someone identify if theyre underweight if theyre normal weight or if theyre overweight or obese but theres quite a few uh problems with this measurement that I want to discuss today one of the biggest problems about this BMI is that it doesnt tell you how much fat you have versus Muscle because lets say for example youre an athlete with a lot of muscle right youre going to register as being either overweight or obese because it doesnt tell the difference between the two so thats a big problem it also doesnt tell the difference between uh you being healthy or unhealthy there are people that are overweight but are healthy metabolically you know theyre metabolically flexible which means they can handle certain carbohydrates much better than other people so BMI is not a good test for whether someones healthy or not now another test that could be done using a certain u

Registering a song with BMI will only allow you to receive performance royalties if that song gets performed; it does not give you protection under copyright law.
BMI is a performing rights organization that licenses, on a non-exclusive basis, the public performing right in approximately 7.5 million non-dramatic musical works on behalf of its over 600,000 affiliated songwriters, composers and publishers, including many thousands of foreign works through BMIs reciprocal
Registration of your copyright is recommended (but not required) and is accomplished by filing a Form PA (paper) or a Form CO (paper with a barcode) with $45 and one copy of your unpublished song on a record, tape or lead sheet, two copies if the song has been published.
Although some performing rights organizations collect annual dues, BMI does not. Instead, there is a one-time fee of $175 to affiliate an individual publisher, $250 as publishing company that is a corporation (including sole stockholder corporations) or LLC and $500 for a partnership.
Can I change my publisher name on BMI? - You will need to notify the IRS of the name change. - If the name and ownership of your BMI publishing company is changing you will need to also complete and return the PUBLISHER OWNERSHIP CHANGE FORM. If the forms are submitted together the fee is $75.
Do I need to start a publishing company? If you are just getting started, you will not need to set up a publishing company. Creating a publishing company will not mean that you receive more royalties. You are not leaving any royalties on the table.
In short, you can email update requests to reviseworks@bmi.com. In your email, be sure to include the title and work number, as well as a clear description of the revision that is being requested.
What do I have to do to receive my royalties? If you expect to receive performance royalties, all you have to do is make sure your work is registered with BMI. However, this does not mean that your mechanical rights are registered. You should contact The Harry Fox Agency if you have questions in this regard.
