In this module, we build on previous discussions about classroom management by introducing a four-step model for addressing emotional and behavioral problems known as Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA). We previously outlined a framework for classroom behavior management consisting of three levels: universal strategies for all students, selected strategies for those at risk of disruption, and intensive strategies for students already exhibiting disruptive behavior. We emphasize that addressing challenging behavior requires an understanding of the unique context of each student and situation, rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach. The focus will be on understanding the causes of disruptive behavior before applying interventions.
