How do I get a duplicate title in Illinois? 1. Fill out the Illinois Duplicate Title Application. You may obtain title and registration applications online, by visiting the nearest Secretary of State facility, or by calling (800) 252-8980.
The average turnaround time for a mail-in title application to be processed is 4-6 weeks. NOTE: You should keep the original docHubd lien release (or a copy) for your personal records. The copy that is submitted with your application will not be returned to you.

Mailed applications may take up to 10 business days to process plus mailing time. Original documentation submitted with the application will be returned to the person/entity receiving the title.
Expedited Title Service is available on titles, duplicate titles, corrected titles and standard ownership changes. Out-of state titles only qualify if sent in by a vehicle dealer. Requests submitted by 12 p.m. will be shipped UPS that day or available for pickup that day in the Springfield facility.
