The lifter must lie with their shoulders and buttocks in contact with the bench surface. The elected position of the buttocks shall be maintained throughout the attempt. The lifters toes must remain in solid contact with the platform (a lifter may use blocks to build up the surface of the platform).

During the setup on the bench, the athlete is not allowed to place his or her feet on the bench. The lifter must lower the bar to the chest or abdominal area whereby the underside of the elbow joint is level with (or below) the top of the shoulder joint.
What are the deadlift commands? Unlike the squat and bench press, there is only one deadlift command, which is down. This is said by the head judge once the lifter achieves full lockout at the top of the deadlift. You must hold the weight at the top until you hear the command.
In the deadlift, there is no command. You have one minute to begin your attempt from the time the announcement is made that the bar is loaded.
The bench press has the most commands of any of the lifts. The referees commands for this lift are start, press, and rack. A lifter gets the start command after the bar has been unracked and their arms are straight with elbows locked. Thats the lifters cue to lower the bar to the chest.
The START command allows you to initiate the descent of the bar. The PRESS command permits you to press the weight up, and lastly, the RACK command allows you to rack the weight on the combo rack. Especially with newer lifters, skipping any of these is a common source of red lights.
Commands: the bench press has 3 commands, start, press and rack which is more than those given during the squat and deadlift. These commands can vary in duration from meet to meet, depending on the referee and the lifter.
