This form may be used in place of a bill of sale, when applying for title on a newly purchased vehicle to obtain a 180-day sales tax credit. The date of sale on this form and date of purchase or the date of the contract to purchase the new vehicle must be within 180 days.
You must complete an Application for Missouri Title and License (Form 108) and submit the application by mail or at any Missouri license office. This is also a good time to add a Transfer on Death (TOD) beneficiary. Lienholder authorization is required to add or remove a name from a title if an outstanding lien exists.
Missouri Sales Tax will not be assessed on a vehicle if Missouri Sales Tax has been paid on the acquisition of the unit. This includes adding or dropping a lien, adding a spouse, dropping a name or a legal name change.
You may apply for a new title at any Missouri license office. You must submit the docHubd lien release (copy or original), your current title (if in your possession) and pay an $8.50 title fee and a $6 processing fee.
General Affidavit Form (DOR-768) Non-Use (notary required): Must be completed when applicant asks to license a vehicle that has not been operated on the highways, and applicant wishes to have registration fee prorated. Submitting an affidavit of non-use does NOT exempt the applicant from applicable renewal penalties.
To gift someone a vehicle, you must transfer the vehicle title to their name and create a bill of sale. Selling a vehicle for $1 instead of gifting it could result in your recipient paying sales tax based on the cars fair market value its better to stick with the official gifting process.
Missouri Bill of Sale Requirements Vehicle sales must be reported to the Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) within 30 days. You can use forms provided by the DOR, or you can create your own.
You must provide the following to the new vehicle owner: General Affidavit (Form 768) Document or a written statement indicating the vehicle was given as a gift. NOTE: The General Affidavit or statement does not have to be docHubd. Lien Release (Form 4809), docHubd, if applicable.
