You cant copy an encrypted AMI that was shared with you from another account. Instead, if the underlying snapshot and encryption key were shared with you, you can copy the snapshot while re-encrypting it with a key of your own. You own the copied snapshot and can register it as a new AMI.
Instead, if you want to copy an AWS Marketplace AMI in another account, you must do the following: share the AWS Marketplace AMI with the other account and then, in the other account, launch an EC2 instance using the AWS Marketplace AMI. You can then create an AMI from the instance using the CreateImage action.
From the AMIs view of the AWS Management console select the AMI and click on Copy: Choose the Copy AMI operation and the Console will ask you where you would like to copy the AMI: After you have made your selections and started the copy you will be provided with the ID of the new AMI in the destination region:
Log in to the AWS Management Console. If required, use the region selector in the top right corner to switch to the region where your instance was launched. Select your instance and then select the Create Image option in the Actions menu. Specify the name for the new image and then click the Create Image button.
To do this, open the EC2 console, select the instance that you want to duplicate, and then choose the Image | Create Image commands from the Actions menu. When you do, the console will display the dialog box shown in Figure 1.
To create a copy of your instance, first create an AMI from it, then launch more instances from the AMI. Alternatively, create a launch template to store the launch parameters for your instances. The following configuration details are copied from the selected instance into the launch instance wizard: AMI ID.
Step 1: Log in to your AWS management console. Step 2: Navigate to EC2 service and select your EC2 instance. Step 4: Provide name, description, reboot option, and tags for the image and click Create Image. Step 5: AMI image is created, now you can launch a new EC2 instance from this AMI.
To create a copy, instance, or reference, hold down the Shift key as you move, rotate, or scale the selection. The general term for duplicating objects is cloning.
How to clone an AWS ec2 instance Log in to the AWS Management Console. In the top bar, Click on the Services menu, search and then click EC2. On the next screen, Click Instances, from the instances list select an instance that you want to clone. Click Actions Button. Now click on Create image under Image and templates.
To create a copy of your instance, first create an AMI from it, then launch more instances from the AMI. Alternatively, create a launch template to store the launch parameters for your instances. The following configuration details are copied from the selected instance into the launch instance wizard: AMI ID.
