Okay, now devotion to the church. What is Scripture saying about how much or how little Christians should devote themselves to the church, and if that should we devote ourselves to a local church, or is it just to be devoted to all Christians everywhere in the universal church? One of the most common questions here is, Is church membership necessary? I was on a plane the other day with a guy who said, Church membership is nowhere in the Bible. Im not a member of a church. This guy said, Im a follower of Christ but not a member of a church because thats just a manmade thing, this membership thing. And this is where I would grant clearly that membership at a local church is not biblically commanded. You wont find anywhere in the Bible where the word church membership is even mentioned, and you wont find a command for believers to become a member of local church, and so for many people that just seals the deal. A person who is a member of another Baptist Church may join our church by transfer of letter. This means our church accepts this person as a believer already a member of another Baptist Church who has made a profession of faith and has been baptized.
The lay member does this by formally requesting that the pastor of the church to which he or she is transferring ask for the proper letter or certificate of transfer from the former church. When the letter or certificate is sent, the lay person ceases to be a member of the former local church.
At FBCG, we receive members three ways by profession of faith, by transfer of membership (letter), and by statement of faith. Profession of faith: this is when a person by faith receives Christ as Savior and follows this with scriptural baptism as a public profession.
To become a member of a church, people are expected to have a personal relationship with God and accept him as their savior. Once someone has taken that step, they can speak to the pastor or church leadership to discuss becoming a member of a church.
How to Write a Church Invitation Start Your Church Invitation by Addressing the Person by Name. Write a Sentence or Two About Why You Are Inviting Them to Church. Include the Day, Time and Location of the Service. Thank Them for Their Time and Say You Hope To See Them Soon. Sign Your Name at the Bottom of the Invitation.
Letter to join by letter means that you are already a Christian who was actively serving in some other Christian ministry, but now, because of relocation or other circumstances, you join with the endorsement in writing, of your previous Pastor or Church family.
