this is the second in a series of tutorials on how to use the word templates for theses and dissertations at the University of Houston Clear Lake as we look in this folder we see two word files in here something to point out is that these are not regular document files these are dot X files or Microsoft Word template files thats different from a Microsoft Word document which is a docx file to understand how the template files work its important to point out that every Microsoft Word document is based on a template this is a normal document that you would open whenever you open Microsoft Word and you notice up here that there are a number of preset styles like normal which is Calibri font 11-point heading 1 heading 2 title the margins are set at 1 inch and so on so this is based on a template file that is exists on your computer that sends this information to Word document every time you open it up when were working with the template files the same exact principle is in place except

On the Insert menu, click Object. In the Object dialog box, click the Create from file tab. In the File name box, type the name of the file from which you want to create a linked object or embedded object. Alternatively, click Browse to select the file from a list.
Right-click the original file and choose Copy (Ctrl+C). Put the mouse cursor on wherever you want a copy to appear, right-click this area and choose Paste (Ctrl+V). Done! Your new Word document is saved and marked as a copy.
To begin, click the Template Editor button in the Tools ribbon tab. This displays the Edit report template window. Click the downward arrow to select the template that youd like to copy. Then, click the duplicate template button to duplicate that template.
Select Tools Organize Pages. Select the page you want to duplicate. Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the page with your mouse to a new position to create a duplicate.
To duplicate everything on the current page, drag your mouse cursor from the beginning of the page to the end.Click the mouse cursor at the top of a blank page. Click the mouse cursor at the end of the page before the place you want to insert the new page. Click the Insert tab. Click Blank Page.
What to Know Highlight all the text on the page you want to duplicate including blank lines. Press Ctrl+C to copy. Select Insert Blank Page to add a page at the end of the document. Place the cursor at the top of the blank page or wherever else you want the duplicate to appear in the document. Press Ctrl+V.
Press Ctrl + A on your keyboard to highlight all text in your document. Tip: You can also highlight your entire document by placing your mouse cursor in the left margin and then quickly clicking the left mouse button three times in a row. Press Ctrl + C to copy the entire highlighted selection.
How to copy and paste an entire page Press Ctrl+A on your keyboard. This selects all the text on the page. Press Ctrl+C to copy this content. Choose a different document and place your cursor in the location where you want to paste your content. Press Ctrl+V on your keyboard.
