The difference between the two is when the DNR protocol becomes active. The DNR protocol lists the actions that a healthcare provider will and will not take during your care. The DNRCC is effective as soon as an authorized healthcare provider signs the form.
Regardless of the format or the venue, DNR orders almost always follow the same general rules to be valid: DNR orders must be written by medical professionals rather than verbalized. Written DNR orders must include the patients name. DNR orders must be dated. The DNR order must be signed by the healthcare provider.
While each state has its own unique paperwork that is appropriate for citizens of that state, there are two general types of DNR orders that are most common across the country: do not resuscitate in hospital and do not resuscitate out of hospital.
A formal DNR order must be obtained through your health care provider. It instructs other health care providers to withhold CPR if your heart stops beating. Let your caregivers and loved ones know about a DNR order and display it somewhere obvious (e.g., on your fridge, in your wallet) to inform others of your wishes.
The DNR Form Ontario requires the patients name, date of birth, address, telephone number, and signature. Additionally, it requires the patient to specify their medical wishes regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), medical treatments, and other end-of-life decisions.
People who choose this code status want to be allowed a natural death. If a person chooses a DNR code status, CPR will not be performed. Comfort Care means that only medical treatments that promote comfort will be provided. If a person chooses comfort care, CPR will not be performed.
A Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order means that CPR is not to be conducted in case of cardiac or respiratory arrest. In the state of Ohio there are two DNR orders: DNR-CCA (Comfort Care Arrest) and DNR-CC (Comfort Care). Only a physician or Licensed Independent Practitioner can write a DNR order.
The purpose of the DNR-C form is to provide direction to emergency responders (i.e., paramedics and firefighters) in the community regarding a patients resuscitation status.
