BMI, or Body Mass Index, measures body fat based on height and weight. A high BMI increases the risk of certain diseases. It is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared. For example, to convert 175 pounds to kilograms, multiply by 0.4536, resulting in 79.38 kg. To convert height, first convert 5 feet 9 inches to inches (5 feet × 12 inches = 60 inches + 9 inches = 69 inches). Convert inches to meters by multiplying by 0.0254, yielding 1.75 meters. Using these values, the BMI formula gives 79.38 kg divided by 1.75 meters squared, resulting in a BMI of 25.8. A formula for BMI using pounds and inches is also provided along with a weight chart.
