Muslin is a loosely woven cotton fabric. Its made using the plain weave technique, which means that a single weft thread alternates over and under a single warp thread. Muslin is known as the material used in fashion prototypes to test patterns before cutting and stitching the final product.
Transfer changes to the pattern Trace the fitting adjustments on the muslin onto the pattern. Cut apart or fold the pattern at the markings. Press and tape the pattern back together. Then finish truing, and trim or fill in with pattern paper to complete the pattern.
Transfer a drape to pattern paper Lay the draped muslin garment sections on a flat work surface. After truing the seamlines on the muslin drape, mark notches on the seamlines and add seam allowances. Finally, trace the muslin onto pattern paper or tissue paper.
Instructions Lay It Out. Place your fabric on the cutting mat. Roll. Roll your tracing wheel along the pattern piece, following the line for your size. Trace the Pattern Markings. Trace the pattern markings, like notches and darts. Remove the Pattern.
Tailors tacks are used to transfer pattern markings, like darts, pockets, button placement, etc. For example, if you need to mark two panels at the identical location with tailors tacks you usually sew two panels together. Then place the scissors in between those two layers of the fabric and cut the stitches.
The Copy Patterns option allows you to replicate a pattern. You can continue to create duplicates of the selected pattern until you move the pointer out of the work area. Example: Copying a Pattern. You have a 0.5 radius round hole at 2X 2Y, and you want to copy it to 4X 7Y. Create a new 10 x 10 part.
Transfer a drape to pattern paper Lay the draped muslin garment sections on a flat work surface. After truing the seamlines on the muslin drape, mark notches on the seamlines and add seam allowances. Finally, trace the muslin onto pattern paper or tissue paper.
Lay out your pattern on a large flat surface. Place the tracing paper over the pattern piece you want to trace. Place pattern weights or other objects over the tracing paper so it wont move around while you trace. Trace around the outline of the pattern piece. Add additional markings and labels.
