so lets just take a closer look at the employee handbook template and have a look at some of the sections throughout this document i might just change the view here so you can see a few more pages um so you can see the pages um for the table of contents there is four four pages and then it gets into the body of the document uh section one is about uh welcoming staff to your business with an introduction from yourself the business owner and you can talk about the history of the company and how you came together as your business um with an option there for a mission statement and creating a vision its quite easy to make changes to this employee handbook template you can basically do a fine and select on on some of the text or you can just read the red items and change those items to suit your business for example if we go for control f thats uh now we go up here and go find and replace can quite easily change company to to your business name so lets get the spelling right first your

There are numerous federal and state laws that govern retention of employment records. Employers must ensure that all records are maintained, either in hard copy or electronically, for the minimum period of time required.
You must keep any data you collect on staff secure - lock paper records in filing cabinets or set passwords for computer records, for example. Only keep the information for as long as you have a clear business need for it, and dispose of it securely afterwards - by shredding, for example.
Personnel files should only include items that are related to an employees job or employment status. Examples of items that should not be included in the personnel file are: Pre-employment records (with the exception of the application and resume) Monthly attendance transaction documents.
A personnel file can serve as the road map to a persons employment. It often contains the initial employment application, performance evaluations over the years, commendations the employee has received, as well as disciplinary records or other written documentation critical of the employees performance.
Written request required: Yes. If employee makes an oral request, the employer must supply a form to make a written request. Conditions for viewing records: Employee may view personnel file at reasonable times, during break or nonwork hours.
Employers should keep all job-related documentation such as hiring records, performance reviews, disciplinary actions and job descriptions in an employees general personnel file. Consider whether the document would be relevant to a supervisor who may review this file when making employment decisions.
California Labor Code Section 432 requires an employer to produce all documents an employee signed. Although there is no specified time requirement nor penalty specified, it is reasonable to expect an employer to produce signed documents within 30 days of receiving the request.
