Both the core and non-core vaccinations are the same for full-grown dogs as they are for puppies. Adult dogs require booster shots to be administered every one to three years to maintain their immunity to the diseases they were inoculated against as puppies.
Most dogs with low-risk lifestyles can be vaccinated every three years with the core vaccines and as needed for any non-core vaccines (most non-core vaccines require annual boosters). Your veterinarian will discuss the need and frequency of booster vaccinations for your dog based on your dogs needs and lifestyle.
All adult dogs should receive a booster shot of the DHPP vaccine either yearly or every 3 years based on your vets recommendation.
Canine Parvovirus, Distemper Virus, and Adenovirus-2 Vaccines. For initial puppy vaccination ( 16 weeks), one dose of vaccine containing modified live virus (MLV) CPV, CDV, and CAV-2 is recommended every 3-4 weeks from 6-8 weeks of age, with the final booster being given around 16 weeks of age.
The vaccine expiration date, also referred to as the lot expiration date, is the use by date for that specific lot of vaccine. As long as the vaccine is used by the date on the vial, the animal will be protected based on label coverage.
View your immunization record online To log in to view your records online at Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON), you will need your health card number. If you need support, or need an Ontario Immunization Identification Number (OIID), please call KFLA Public Health at 613-549-1232.
Although getting your dog vaccinated when it is very young is very important it is equally important to keep your dog vaccinated throughout its life. How often should dogs be vaccinated after their first inoculations? We recommend that dogs receive a booster vaccinations every 12 months.
At what age do you stop vaccinating your dog? Senior dogs do not generally stop requiring vaccinations, but it will depend on your dogs lifestyle and overall health. Once a dog docHubes seven years of age, its senior status requires some special considerations to keep them healthy and happy.
