chromosomes can vary in a lot of different ways across people and within people and everyone knows about certain types of copy number variants for example people with Down Syndrome have three chromosome 21s thats one very big copy number variant but the chromosome is made up of repeats of different structures within the chrom chomosome and even deletions of parts of the chromosome and there are all sorts of diseases in Pediatrics typically where you could be missing a little piece of the chromosome and theres also very small copy number variants and then even smaller than that whats called sequencing of genes where you just find one base pair now that may be a lot of Concepts because youd need to know a lot about the the structure of of genetics so this may be far more in depth than I think you want to go but while the kind of copy number variants that weve been studying which are just changes in material in the chromosome that are too small to see with a microscope but can be see

Copy number variation is defined as the presence of variable numbers of copies of a particular DNA segment relative to a reference genome. Deletions and duplications result in copy number changes.
Copy number variation (CNV) is a general term used to describe a molecular phenomenon in which sequences of the genome are repeated, and the number of repeats varies between individuals of the same species.
Plasmid copy number was determined by comparing the quantification signal from the plasmid to those from the chromosome. Copy number was then calculated by using a known copy number plasmid as a standard.
The CNV is simply given by the ratio of the estimated concentration of the target gene to the estimated concentration of the reference gene. Both of these concentrations are estimated by applying the Poisson law as explained in the item Poisson Law Computation.
Copy number variation (CNV) disorders arise from the dosage imbalance of one or more gene(s), resulting from deletions, duplications or other genomic rearrangements that lead to the loss or gain of genetic material.
Copy number variation, CNV. Changes in the number of copies of small sections of our genomes can have big consequences. One interesting example is a gene called amylase. This gene is important for digesting starchy foods like potatoes or grains.
One of the most well known examples of a short copy number variation is the trinucleotide repeat of the CAG base pairs in the huntingtin gene responsible for the neurological disorder Huntingtons disease.
Complex combination of Down syndrome phenotype could be produced by partially copy number variations (CNVs) on chromosome 21 as well.
