hi my name is Matthew Pearce Im a software engineer and today Im going to show you how to copy a number thats in an Excel spreadsheet cell thats been derived from other numbers in the spreadsheet and copied that into another cell rather than copying what it was derived from thats what happens if you just do a straight copy out of a cell that has a number and its derived from other numbers what youre actually gonna be copying is the formula that was used to derive it which may not be helpful to you so Ill show you how to do it just to copy the value to another cell so I have here a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and you see Ive got in a cell a1 it says zero if you look at a1 its got a formula the contents of a1 is made by the sum of B 1 C 1 D 1 so Ive put some numbers in there you can see that hell one plus two plus three equals six so there there you have it you know this cell here gets its uh its contents is derived from the sum of B 1 C 1 and D 1 so if you want to copy tha

How to Copy a Value Using Keyboard Shortcuts Click the cell that you want to copy. Press Ctrl + C on Windows or Cmd + C on Mac to copy the cell. Click the cell where you want to paste the value. Press Ctrl + Shift + V on Windows or Cmd + Shift + V on Mac. The new cell will now contain a value, not a formula.
Also, you may hold the ctrl key first before doing the ctrl + v in order to paste the copied items multiple times.
Sometimes when you are working with data, you may need to just copy and paste numbers from one range to another. Here is a handy little trick to achieve that. Use Paste Special Add operator to paste numbers only. Click ok.
Insert the same data into multiple cells using Ctrl+Enter Select all the blank cells in a column. Press F2 to edit the last selected cell and type some data: it can be text, a number, or a formula (e.g. unknown) Press Ctrl+Enter instead of Enter. All the selected cells will be filled with the data that you typed.
Converting formulas to values using Excel shortcuts Select all the cells with formulas that you want to convert. Press Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Ins to copy formulas and their results to clipboard. Press Shift + F10 and then V to paste only values back to Excel cells.
Mouse Shortcut for Copy Paste Select the cells that you want to copy. Hold the Control key. Place the mouse cursor at the edge of the selection (you will notice that the cursor changes into an arrow with a plus sign) Left-click and then drag the selection where you want the cells to be pasted.
