We recommend that you use launch templates to ensure that you're accessing the latest features and improvements. Not all Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling features are available when you use launch configurations.
Instead, if you want to copy an AWS Marketplace AMI in another account, you must do the following: share the AWS Marketplace AMI with the other account and then, in the other account, launch an EC2 instance using the AWS Marketplace AMI. You can then create an AMI from the instance using the CreateImage action.
Share an AMI (console) In the navigation pane, choose AMIs. Select your AMI in the list, and then choose Actions, Edit AMI permissions. Choose Private. Under Shared accounts, choose Add account ID. For AWS account ID, enter the AWS account ID with which you want to share the AMI, and then choose Share AMI.
To create an AMI from a snapshot using the console Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/ . In the navigation pane, choose Snapshots. Select the snapshot from which to create the AMI, and then choose Actions, Create image from snapshot. For Image name, enter a descriptive name for the image.
To create a custom AMI, launch an Elastic Beanstalk platform AMI in Amazon EC2, customize the software and configuration to your needs, and then stop the instance and save an AMI from it.
To copy your AMI from one region to another region, you can follow the below-given steps. Login to your AWS account. Go to your EC2 dashboard. Click on the AMI option. Select your AMI and in Actions, you can find Copy AMI.
It's not possible to transfer existing instances or AMIs between AWS accounts. Instead, you can manually migrate an EC2 image from one AWS account to another.
You can copy an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) within or across AWS Regions. You can copy both Amazon EBS-backed AMIs and instance-store-backed AMIs. You can copy AMIs with encrypted snapshots and also change encryption status during the copy process.
Create an AMI from an Amazon EC2 Instance Right-click the instance you want to use as the basis for your AMI, and choose Create Image from the context menu. Create Image context menu. In the Create Image dialog box, type a unique name and description, and then choose Create Image.
From the AMIs view of the AWS Management console select the AMI and click on Copy: Choose the Copy AMI operation and the Console will ask you where you would like to copy the AMI: After you have made your selections and started the copy you will be provided with the ID of the new AMI in the destination region:
