To copy an AMI using the AWS CLI You can copy an AMI using the copy-image command. You must specify both the source and destination Regions. You specify the source Region using the --source-region parameter. You can specify the destination Region using either the --region parameter or an environment variable.
To copy an AMI from one Region to another, specify the source Region using the SourceRegion parameter, and specify the destination Region using its endpoint. Copies of encrypted backing snapshots for the AMI are encrypted.
Find the row of the instance to clone. At the right end of the row, click the More Actions morevert menu. Click Create clone. On the Create a clone page, update the instance ID if needed, and click Create clone, leaving Clone current state of instance selected.
Log in to the AWS Management Console. If required, use the region selector in the top right corner to switch to the region where your instance was launched. Select your instance and then select the Create Image option in the Actions menu. Specify the name for the new image and then click the Create Image button.
You can copy the same AMI to multiple regions simultaneously. The console-based interface is push-based; you log in to the source region and select where youd like the AMI to end up.
You can export previously imported EC2 instances using the Amazon EC2 API tools. You simply specify the target instance, virtual machine file format and a destination S3 bucket, and VM Import/Export will automatically export the instance to the S3 bucket.
Using the EC2 Console Open Amazon EC2 console, and select the region that contains the AMI you want to use. In the left-hand navigation, select AMIs under Images to display all AMIs in your selected region. For the AMI you want to copy, right click to show Actions, and then select Copy AMI.
To launch a new EC2 instance from an AMI, do the following: Open the EC2 console. From the navigation bar, choose AMIs. Find the AMI that you want to use to launch a new instance.
