In this lecture, Im going to show you how you can use index and match to solve complex lookup problems. The thing with INDEX and MATCH is that its not a VLOOKUP, its much better than a VLOOKUP. And you are going to come across situations or youve probably come already across situations where VLOOKUP just wasnt working. It couldnt do the lookup that you wanted, because your lookup problem was too complex. Thats exactly when index and match can come to the rescue. It was difficult for me to start using index and match. Just like a habit, I had to force myself at the beginning to use it until I got the hang of it. Now, what Im going in this lecture is first, to explain to you how index works in easy terms. And then Im going to show you how match works. And then were going to put these together. So, the example I have is list of divisions, apps, revenue, and profits. The aim of our formula is that we want someone to select an app here, so lets say Misty Wash and we want to get

Indexing in LaTeX Include \index{entry} commands wherever you want an index entry. Include \usepackage{makeidx} and \makeindex in the preamble. Put a \printindex command where the index is to appear, normally before the \end{document} command.
To add an entry to the index the command \index{} is used, where the word to be added is inserted as the parameter. Be careful, this wont print the word in the current position but only in the index. Finally, the command \printindex will actually render the index.
One can rename the index using \renewcommand{\indexname}{bla}, but reformatting it using this command (\renewcommand{\indexname}{\textbf{bla}}) will also change the way the index name is displayed above the headline.
LaTeX supports the creation of indices with its package makeidx, and its support program makeindex , called on some systems makeidx .
A table of contents is produced with the \tableofcontents command. You put the command right where you want the table of contents to go; LaTeX does the rest for you. It produces a heading, but it does not automatically start a new page.
activePage: It denotes the current page number.
To add an entry to the index the command \index{} is used, where the word to be added is inserted as the parameter. Be careful, this wont print the word in the current position but only in the index. Finally, the command \printindex will actually render the index.
MakeIndex is a program for making an index in a document generated with LaTEX. The first step in producing the index is to put the necessary \index commands in your document, as described in the next section. Here, I describe how to generate the index after the \index commands are in place.
