Whos this nerd? This is Angela Guido, the founder of Career Protocol, its MBA Monday, and today Im talking about Tricky recommender situations. We talk a lot about recommendations on a Monday because theyre an incredibly important part of your application, but theyre also the part thats hardest to manage and control because your destiny is in the hands of other people. So if you havent already watched last seasons videos, I recommend you go back and watch how to choose the best recommenders, how your recommenders can address the strengths question and how they can address the question about feedback. Like I said, we talk a lot about this subject. So theres a lot of great content on MBA Monday about recommenders. Font sizes of between 10 and 12 and standard publishing fonts such as Times New Roman and Century are preferred. The convention is to single-space your type, skip lines between each paragraph, and either consistently choose no indentation for paragraphs or indent each paragraph one-half inch.
The format typically consists of 1) the letterhead and full contact information, 2) a salutation, 3) an introduction, 4) an overview, 5) a personal story, 6) a closing sentence and 7) your signature. The three types of recommendation letters are employment, academic, and character recommendation letters.
Another important factor in the readability of a letter is the font. The generally accepted font is Times New Roman, size 12, although other fonts such as Arial may be used. When choosing a font, always consider your audience. If you are writing to a conservative company, you may want to use Times New Roman.
Format: A letter of recommendation should be single-spaced with a space between each paragraph. Use about 1 margins for the top, bottom, left, and right of the page, and align your text to the left (the alignment for most documents). Font: Use a traditional font such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri.
Keep copies of letters If you decide to apply for a similar job or academic program, you may also want to use the same letter of recommendation for that application. In this case, ask your reference for permission before you use their letter for another application.
Use a business letter format using a twelve point font size in either Arial or Times New Roman. Write your letter on your business or organization letterhead if possible. The recipient likely reads dozens if not hundreds of letters, so keep yours concise and to the point. Aim for at least one page but no more than two.
Typically, a professional letter template follows several basic formatting guidelines, including: Using 12-point font. Using Times New Roman or Arial font.
Recommendation letter format Times New Roman font always looks very professional, and the font size should be 11 or 12 point.
