A paraphrase offers an alternative to using direct quotations and allows you to integrate evidence/source material into assignments. Paraphrasing can also be used for note-taking and explaining information in tables, charts and diagrams.
Depending on what youre studying, examples could be: quotes from a literary text. quotes from primary sources. quotes from websites, blogs or forums.
There are four types, to be exact: Statistical Evidence. Testimonial Evidence. Anecdotal Evidence. Analogical Evidence.
Use quotation marks around the words you are borrowing directly from another source. For longer passages, use block quotations. Example: Samson (2010) stated, Mirror neurons allow for imitation and empathy (p. 214).
You can cite evidence by: Using an in-text citation with parentheses at the end of a sentence. Using a footnote or end note. Stating the name of the author, speaker, or organization in your sentence and including another citation method or a works cited page.
An example would be a witness pointing to someone in the courtroom and saying, Thats the guy I saw robbing the grocery store. This is also called direct evidence or prima facie evidence. Physical evidence can be any object or material relevant in a crime. It can be any tangible thing, large or small.
