Basic Steps To Endorsing A Check. Before depositing or cashing a check, youll typically need to endorse it. This is done by signing the back in the designated area called the endorsement box. Your signature indicates that you are the intended recipient of the funds and authorizes the bank to process the check.
Each required party will need to sign their name in the endorsement section. For security reasons, its important to use permanent ink rather than pencil or erasable ink and to sign your name exactly as its written on the check.
Endorsing a check by signing the back of it is a security step that simultaneously helps to verify you as the proper recipient of the funds and authorizes the bank to complete the transaction.
You can make deposits in a snap with your iPhone or Android device. Due to a new banking regulation, all checks deposited via a mobile service must include: For Mobile Deposit Only handwritten below your signature in the endorsement area on the back of the check or the deposit may be rejected.
Write Pay to the Order of and the third partys name below your signature. Its important to write the name of the person that you are signing the check over to in the endorsement area under your signature. This signals to the bank that you are endorsing the transfer of ownership for the check.
Steps to deposit a check for someone else If youre depositing a check in someone elses name into your account: That person needs to endorse the check to allow you to deposit it. Generally, the person should write Pay to the order of [Your Name] on the back of the check and then sign it.
Maybe a friend who doesnt have a bank account asks you to cash a check for them. You can deposit someone elses check into your account if your bank or credit union allows it and you follow the financial institutions rules for making the deposit.
Typically, there will be text indicating Endorse here. Sign your name in the indicated space exactly as it appears on the Pay to line on the front of the check. Directly underneath your signature, print Pay to the order of and the recipients full name in clear, legible handwriting.
