hello all and welcome to this aws tutorial in our tutorial today i will demo how to copy an ec2 ami from one aws region to another steps for our tutorial today first we will launch an amazon linux ec2 instance with inbound ports 22 and 80 open after that we will enable and start httpd service on our ec2 instance once our httpd service is up and running we will create an index.html page on our ec2 instance now this index.html is going to act as our application so letamp;#39;s say instead of this if you had additional prerequisites or if you had an actual application that you wanted to on ec2 feel free to do that right iamp;#39;m just leveraging this index.html which is going to kind of be my pseudo application right but you can pretty much have anything else ensure that whatever application that you have on that box especially since this is a web server because port 80 is open itamp;#39;s up and running and youamp;#39;re able to browse it right because you donamp;#39;t want any uh

Each AMI includes a template for the root volume required for a particular type of instance. A typical example might contain an operating system, an application server and applications.
Resolution. If you know the account IDs of the AWS accounts that you want to share the AMI with, follow the instructions at Share an AMI with specific AWS accounts. To copy the shared AMI, see Cross-account copying. Note: Sharing an AMI from different Regions isnt available.
Using the EC2 Console Open Amazon EC2 console, and select the region that contains the AMI you want to use. In the left-hand navigation, select AMIs under Images to display all AMIs in your selected region. For the AMI you want to copy, right click to show Actions, and then select Copy AMI.
You can copy an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) into or to another AWS Region using the AWS Management Console, the AWS Command Line Interface, or SDKs, or the Amazon EC2 API, all of which support the CopyImage action. You can copy Amazon EBS-based AMIs and Instance Store AMIs.
Depending on the size of the volumes, it can take several minutes for the AMI-creation process to complete (sometimes up to 24 hours). You may find it more efficient to create snapshots of your volumes prior to creating your AMI.
To create a copy of your AMI in another AWS Region, follow these steps: Create an AMI of your EC2 instance: To create a Linux AMI, see Create your own AMI. Copy the AMI of your EC2 instance to another AWS Region: After the copy operation completes, launch a new EC2 instance from your AMI in the new AWS Region.
AMIs are a regional resource. Therefore, sharing an image makes it available in that Region. To make an image available in a different Region, copy the AMI to the Region and then share it. AMIs with encrypted volumes cannot be made public.
