RTF stands for Rich Text Format and is a universal document file format and is easily read by many of the word-processing packages. It is particularly useful to those using a different word-processing package from those used on campus.
There is no option in Outlook to change this default; Outlook will always reply and forward in the same format (Plain Text, Rich Text or HTML) of the original message. This is to keep the original message intact, maintain the preference or technical limitation of the original sender.
What is the difference between DOC and RTF? Even though both RTF and DOC are document file formats, RTF contains basic formatting information, while DOC supports complex formatting made in MS Word. On the File tab, choose Options Mail. Under Compose messages, in the Compose messages in this format list, click HTML, Plain Text, or Rich Text.
