hey everyone shashank this side i hope everybody is doing well and safe at home as you can see on my screen today well be going to cover up an important topic where i will show you how you can share your aws ami across different region within aws and across different accounts now the question is why this is required so obviously for example lets say im operating from different region right within ews one single aws account and i want to use my custom ami with set of softwares updated with the patches drivers and everything so instead of creating image again and again within different region i would like to use one golden image shared across region and use that image to provision my production environments right so thats where this topic is quite important on the other hand in terms of sharing this to our different ews accounts so for example we are dealing with development staging production just to make a replica in the lower side of the house right lower side of the envi

Can I copy AMI from one account to another?

You can copy an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) within or across AWS Regions. You can copy both Amazon EBS-backed AMIs and instance-store-backed AMIs. You can copy AMIs with encrypted snapshots and also change encryption status during the copy process.

How long does it take to copy an AMI?

Depending on the size of the volumes, it can take several minutes for the AMI-creation process to complete (sometimes up to 24 hours). You may find it more efficient to create snapshots of your volumes prior to creating your AMI.

Are AWS key pair region specific?

The key pairs that you create using Amazon EC2 are tied to the Region where you created them. You can create your own RSA key pair and upload it to the Region in which you want to use it; therefore, you can make your key pair globally available by uploading it to each Region.
