Hi Im Stan Muller. This is Crash Course Intellectual Property and today were continuing our discussion of copyright law. In his 2011 book, Infringement Nation, Professor John Tehranian conducts a thought experiment where he tracks a guys encounter with copyright law through the course of an unremarkable day. Well were going to try this experiment and I dont really think it will end up being a completely unremarkable day. I mean, in our version I end up getting a tattoo, which for me would be memorable. Look, I dont like to front-load the animation sequences like this, but since were doing a thought experiment, were going to have to do it in the Thought Bubble. A person who does something with a protected work that only the copyright owner is entitled to do, and does so without the permission of the copyright owner of that work, infringes the copyright of the owner. That person can be held liable for that action.
