A copy constructor is a member function that initializes an object using another object of the same class. In simple terms, a constructor which creates an object by initializing it with an object of the same class, which has been created previously is known as a copy constructor. Example: Syntax of Copy Constructor.
Copy constructor can be created by explicitly passing the object as an argument of the same class whose object we want to create. Copy of an object can also be created without using a copy constructor and by simply assigning the values of one object to the other object or using the clone() method.
In Java, cloning is the process of creating an exact copy of the original object. It essentially means the ability to create an object with a similar state as the original object. The Objects clone() method provides the cloning functionality in Java. Table Of Contents. 1.
The copy. copy() function creates shallow copies of objects. This is useful if you need to clearly communicate that youre creating a shallow copy somewhere in your code. Using copy.
Copy Constructor is used to create and exact copy of an object with the same values of an existing object.
The clone() method is used to create a copy of an object of a class which implements Cloneable interface. By default, it does field-by-field copy as the Object class doesnt have any idea about the members of the particular class whose objects call this method.
8. What is the syntax of copy constructor? Explanation: The syntax must contain the class name first, followed by the classname as type and object within parenthesis. Then comes the constructor body.
However, the copy constructor has some advantages over the clone method: The copy constructor is much easier to implement. We do not need to implement the Cloneable interface and handle CloneNotSupportedException. The clone method returns a general Object reference.
A user-defined copy constructor is generally needed when an object owns pointers or non-shareable references, such as to a file, in which case a destructor and an assignment operator should also be written (see Rule of three).
Copy constructors are the member functions of a class that initialize the data members of the class using another object of the same class. It copies the values of the data variables of one object of a class to the data members of another object of the same class.
