Hi Im Paul Duty, Chief Instructor at Gleim Aviation. And Im Ryan Jeff, Aviation Research Assistant at Gleim Aviation. In this video, well be discussing the differences between a flight plan and flight following. First, lets discuss flight plans. You can think of a flight plan as a way to inform ATC about your planned flight. Except for operations within an Air Defense Identification Zone, a flight plan is not required for VFR flight. However, it is strongly recommended that you file a flight plan with flight service, asthis will ensure you receive VFR search and rescue protection in the event that youraircraft goes missing or becomes overdue. Note that a VFR flight plan does not provide any in-flight services and flight service is not notified automatically, should an accident occur. There is no need to print tickets thanks to e-tickets. In other words, e-ticket or online flight tickets have replaced the print ones. Passengers and airline company makes a contract through e-tickets. Passengers ticket details are secured in the companys database through encryptions such as PNR.
Yes, you can create an itinerary template that covers multiple destinations for an event or trip! For example, if youre organizing a company retreat with multiple destinations (think Chicago to New York or Paris to Berlin), you can create schedules for each location in the same itinerary.
If not, you can go to the airline website and find it under your trips (many airlines have a section, often called manage booking or my trips or something similar, where you can pull up your itinerary by inputting your name and confirmation number).
The traveler should bring the email itinerary or boarding pass on a smartphone with ticket number information and/or airline record locator.
When you arrive at the airport, it is normally a good idea to have a printed version of your flight itinerary and boarding card. However, having a physical copy is not always essential, as many airlines now give the opportunity to check-in and obtain boarding passes online via their mobile websites or apps.
An itinerary is confirmed if it is verified by an airline. If you have a document from an airline that lists a confirmation code or demonstrates that you have actually reserved or booked your tickets, you have a confirmed travel itinerary.
Is a printed itinerary required at the airport? No, a digital copy of your itinerary will do, but we recommend securing your boarding pass before heading to the airport and presenting this instead. Get your boarding pass by checking in online as early as 48 hours before your flight.
Theres nothing wrong with a mobile boarding pass, of course, and there are times when it might be more practical to use them. For example, if youre taking just one short flight, youre not checking a bag, and your phone battery is fully charged, a mobile boarding pass shouldnt be an issue.
