Austin Kelly discusses how to write a personal reference letter. He emphasizes that one should only accept requests to provide a character reference if they know the person well enough to speak positively about their traits relevant to the job. Key elements to include in the letter are: 1) the relationship to the candidate, such as volunteering together or knowing them as a neighbor; 2) the duration of acquaintance, specifying how long you have known the candidate; 3) highlighting positive personal qualities that relate to the job; 4) supporting specific examples of the candidate's attributes; and 5) a closing statement that reaffirms your endorsement.
