The FNLMA was federal legislation that brought the Framework Agreement into Canadian law, allowing First Nations to develop their own laws about land use, the environment, and natural resources on reserve.

On December 15, 2022, the Framework Agreement on First Nation Land Management Act came into force to repeal and replace the First Nations Land Management Act .
Treaty Land Entitlement In 1992, the provincial and federal governments and 25 First Nations signed the Saskatchewan Treaty Land Entitlement Framework Agreement. It established a framework to address outstanding TLE obligations. Eight subsequent TLE agreements with individual First Nations have since been signed.
