Using the EC2 Console Open Amazon EC2 console, and select the region that contains the AMI you want to use. In the left-hand navigation, select AMIs under Images to display all AMIs in your selected region. For the AMI you want to copy, right click to show Actions, and then select Copy AMI.
You can copy an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) into or to another AWS Region using the AWS Management Console, the AWS Command Line Interface, or SDKs, or the Amazon EC2 API, all of which support the CopyImage action. You can copy Amazon EBS-based AMIs and Instance Store AMIs.
To create a copy of your AMI in another AWS Region, follow these steps: Create an AMI of your EC2 instance: To create a Linux AMI, see Create your own AMI. Copy the AMI of your EC2 instance to another AWS Region: After the copy operation completes, launch a new EC2 instance from your AMI in the new AWS Region.
Fundamentally, copying an EC2 instance to another takes a few steps. First, you need to create an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) of the instance you want to copy. Then, you need to copy that AMI to the target region. Last, you can use the relocated AMI to launch your new instance in your desired region.
Resolution. If you know the account IDs of the AWS accounts that you want to share the AMI with, follow the instructions at Share an AMI with specific AWS accounts. To copy the shared AMI, see Cross-account copying. Note: Sharing an AMI from different Regions isnt available.
AMIs are a regional resource. Therefore, sharing an image makes it available in that Region. To make an image available in a different Region, copy the AMI to the Region and then share it. AMIs with encrypted volumes cannot be made public.
