To convert number grades to letter grades in Microsoft Excel, you can use the VLOOKUP function for efficiency. The grading scale is as follows: scores below 50 receive an F, 50-59 a D, 60-69 a C, 70-79 a B, and 80 or above an A. Instead of using multiple IF statements, you'll create a conversion chart beside your scores. Start by inserting a column for the lower bounds of each score range: 0 in cell G4, 50 in G5, etc. Then, in cell D4, input the VLOOKUP formula to reference the conversion chart to easily convert the numeric scores into corresponding letter grades. This simplifies the grading process significantly.
