Control Charts use two types of data: np chart: Charts the number of defective units in a subgroup if the sample size is constant. p chart: Charts the fraction or percent defective if the sample size varies.
The control chart is a graph used to study how a process changes over time. Data are plotted in time order. A control chart always has a central line for the average, an upper line for the upper control limit, and a lower line for the lower control limit. These lines are determined from historical data.
Control charts consist of a horizontal and a vertical axis. The horizontal axis represents time while the vertical axis represents the process characteristic being measured. There are two other horizontal lines and they represent the upper control limit (UCL) and the lower control limit (LCL).
All control charts have three basic components: a centerline, usually the mathematical average of all the samples plotted. upper and lower statistical control limits that define the constraints of common cause variations. performance data plotted over time.
The applications of control charts to accounting include internal auditing, customer billing, and tax return preparation.
All control charts have three basic components: a centerline, usually the mathematical average of all the samples plotted. upper and lower statistical control limits that define the constraints of common cause variations. performance data plotted over time.
The main purpose of a control chart is to improve the process. It provides a voice of the process that helps teams to identify special causes of variation in the process. By removing the special cause from the process, the process becomes a more stable and consistent process.
The three main components of an SPC chart are - a central line (CL) for the average, a lower control line (LCL) for the lower control unit, and an upper control line (UCL) for the upper control unit. SPC charts were initially developed by Dr. Walter A. Shewhart of Bell Laboratories in the 1920s.
Rule of Seven Tests The tests state that an out of control situation is present if one of the following conditions is true: 1) Seven points in a row above the average, 2) Seven points in a row below the average, 3) Seven points in a row trending up, or 4) Seven points in a row trending down.
Types of Control Charts X-Chart. X-Charts present variable data. P-Chart. P-Charts are used for data that is counted. NP-Chart. NP-Charts are used to present the number of nonconforming or conforming items. C-Chart. U-Chart. MR-Chart. Individual MR-Chart. Custom Data Control Chart.
