Pipelines for merge requests can run when you: Create a new merge request. Commit changes to the source branch for the merge request. Select the Run pipeline button from the Pipelines tab in the merge request.
Enable pipelines for merged results Configure your CI/CD configuration file so that the pipeline or individual jobs run for merge requests. Visit your projects Settings General and expand Merge requests. Check Enable merged results pipelines. Click Save changes.
When reviewing a merge request that looks ready to merge but still has one or more CI jobs running, you can set it to be merged automatically when the jobs pipeline succeeds. This way, you dont have to wait for the jobs to finish and remember to merge the request manually.
If no approval rules are defined, any user can approve a merge request, though the default minimum number of required approvers can still be set in the project settings for merge request approvals. You can opt to define one single rule to approve a merge request among the available rules or choose more than one.
To do this: On the left sidebar, select Settings Merge requests. In the Merge request approvals section, scroll to Approval settings and select Prevent approvals by users who add commits. If this checkbox is cleared, an administrator has disabled it at the instance level, and it cant be changed at the project level.
Enable the delete source branch when merge request is accepted option to keep your repository clean. Enable the squash commits when merge request is accepted option to combine all the commits into one before merging, thus keep a clean commit history in your repository.
A closed merge request is one that has been put aside or considered irrelevant. It is therefore not merged into the code base. Therefore, you only merge MRs when youre happy with the changes and close them if you think the changes are not worthy of being integrated into the code base ever.
Approval rules define the conditions under which Advanced Approvals sends an approval request to approvers. With certain page layouts and field-level security settings, some fields arent visible or editable. An approval rule runs when it meets its approval conditions relative to the rules Conditions Met field.
You can configure your pipeline to run every time you commit changes to a branch. This type of pipeline is called a branch pipeline. Alternatively, you can configure your pipeline to run every time you make changes to the source branch for a merge request. This type of pipeline is called a merge request pipeline.
For the given merge request, if the required number of approvals has been met (i.e., the number of approvals given to the merge request is greater or equal than the required number), then the merge request is unblocked and can be merged.
