5 Things to Consider for Typeface Readability. Based on the survey results, we asked Maag and Williams to rank what they consider most important when choosing a typeface. From most important to least, the hierarchy they recommend goes: context, letter spacing, open letters, humanist versus grotesque, and mirroring.
While font readability means exactly what you think it means: easy to read and understand, legibility means having sufficient contrast with a background (for example, not putting white text on a yellow background). Its important to understand what things affect the readability of your type.
To test web fonts for readability, you need to use various tools and methods, such as browser testing with tools like BrowserStack or LambdaTest, font testing with tools like FontPair or TypeTester, and user testing with tools like UsabilityHub or UserTesting.
Give emphasis. This can be done by putting the word, phrase or sentence in italics (the most common form of emphasis used). You may also try putting the words in bold, or by underlining them. Others put the point of emphasis in all caps. Some also highlight the words, or use different colored letters.
