This is especially true if your goal is to hide skin unevenness, redness, or blemishes. As a pro artist, I prefer to apply foundation first so that when I blend my concealer into the foundation, it looks completely seamless, says celebrity makeup artist Kim Baker.
After your primer, opt for a tinted moisturizer, foundation, CC, or BB cream. If your choice of base is foundation, for under-eye circles, apply concealer first, then foundation. For blemishes and pimple coverage, apply foundation first, or the concealer could be rubbed away in the foundation application.
Instead, it helps to tap gently with a soft stippling motion. And this goes for whether you use a brush, a sponge, or even your finger a gentle dabbing motion will allow your concealer to blend into your skin seamlessly. Then, for even more staying power, dab a powder over top.
Concealer to cover imperfections To hide imperfections and blemishes, concealer should match your skin tone and undertone, seamlessly blending into the skin. To reduce the appearance of dark circles, though, apply a concealer that is 1 shade lighter than your skin tone.
Once youve figured out which shade you need, applying your color corrector is pretty straightforward. First, youll apply primer, then dot on your color corrector where needed and blend. Finally, youll layer on the rest of your base makeup (specifically, foundation and concealer).
If you have blemishes or pigmentation on the skin, youre going to want to put your base on first, explains Lenny. If you do your concealer first, youll just end up covering or disrupting the work you did. Really, you just want to pat your concealer on as a final step and leave it.
When it comes to choosing the best colour of concealer, you should look for one that is the same shade as your skin tone to cover anything on the face, and then go one or two shades lighter on the under-eye area, says Urichuk.
