If you are formatting a lot of text, like in a resume, using a table looks odd, but helps you organize and align content very quickly. If you want to create a document like a resume without a template, we recommend using a table.
Remove images, columns, tables, fields, text boxes and graphics so the ATS can quickly scan your text for keywords and phrases. The ATS may not be able to read data placed in images, tables, and text boxes, so its best to avoid them altogether.
Two-column resumes may not be standard, but theyre not always bad practice. The key is to format two-column resumes correctly, so an ATS can properly parse and label the right sections when scanning.
Which resume format is most ATS-friendly? The most ATS-friendly format is the reverse chronological resume. This type of resume lists your work experience in reverse chronological order, with your most recent position listed first.
Avoid images, charts, and other graphics While these may look nice to the human eye, resumes with embedded images become a garbled mess after they pass through the applicant tracking system. For instance, if you insert an image or chart to showcase your key skills, the ATS resume scanner will be unable to read it.
