If you value precision and accuracy, particularly for mid to long range shooting, a 3 MOA dot would be more appropriate. Conversely, if you require faster target acquisition and engage in close-quarters shooting, a 6 MOA dot may be a better choice. Evelyn: Thank you, Stephen.
Harder to Conceal Not only that, but many holsters do not accommodate red dot sights.
The size of the dot is measured in minutes of angle (moa), with 1 minute of angle being equal to 1 inch @ 100 yards (approx.). Example; a 2 moa module will produce a dot that will cover 2 inches of your target @ 100 yards, a 6 moa module will cover 6 inches, and so on.
MOA stands for minutes of angle. This has to do with the size of the dot and how much it will cover at a certain distance. For example, a red dot of 2 MOA is smaller in size than a red dot of 6 MOA. 1 minute of angle is about equivalent to 1 inch at a 100-yard distance.
3 MOA prioritizes the ultimate aiming accuracy for disciplined firing, while 6 MOA tilts towards target acquisition speed and adequate range. If emphasizing careful shot placement, the 3 MOA dot forces more refinement. But if reactive shooting dominates your needs, the quicker 6 MOA acquisition has advantages.
If youre looking for speed and precision at close distances such as defensive situations and pistol shooting, larger options like 3 MOA or 6 MOA will give you an edge on target acquisition speed.
The most common dot size ranges from 3 to 5 MOA. A 4 MOA dot is best for close ranges, while a 2 MOA dot is best for longer ranges.
