Replace unwanted content with the Patch tool Select the Patch tool (J) from the toolbar. In the tool options bar, choose Normal as the Patch option, and select either Source or Destination. With the Patch tool selected, draw a selection border over an area on your image that you want to replace.
With the selection active, click the Add layer mask button in the Layers panel. On the layer mask, there is white where there was a selection (the subject) and black where there was no selection (the background). The black hides the area that was not selected.

For a concealing mask, Alt-click (PC) or Option-click (Mac) the Add Layer Mask button. Adjust it: In the Channels panel, double-click your mask to adjust its edges and opacity. Or right-click the layer mask thumbnail.
